Gestern habe ich ein Banner in die Seitenspalte gesetzt, das auf den Legal Defense Fund des Critical-Art-Ensemble-Mitglieds Dr. Steven Kurtz verweist. Kurtz, der in seinen Kunstwerken auch lebende Bakterienkulturen als Material verwendet, wurde auf Basis des U.S.A. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act, genauer dessen Erweiterung des »Biological Weapons Statute«, angeklagt. Inzwischen wurde die Anklage in »Mail and Wire Fraud« umgewandelt, worauf immer noch eine Höchststrafe von 20 Jahren steht. Der CAE Defense Fund hierzu:

The laws under which the indictments were obtained are normally used against those defrauding others of money or property, as in telemarketing schemes. Historically, these laws have been used when the government could not prove other criminal charges.

Heute morgen dann Wolfowitz (ja, der Wolfowitz) als Op-Ed Contributor in der New York Times:

There are few powers that a democratic state possesses that are as awesome as the power to prosecute its own citizens lawfully.
